More About Dragonfly Studios

Our Philosopy

At Dragonfly Studios, we believe creativity is a gateway to confidence, connection, and emotional growth.
Our programs are rooted in process art — focusing on exploration, experimentation, and the joy of creating rather than the pressure to produce a perfect product.

We see art as a container for life skills: innovation, problem-solving, decision-making, and self-trust.
Through the creative process, children learn to navigate frustration, adapt to change, express emotion, and celebrate their unique voice.

Each class is designed to nurture the whole child — mind, heart, and imagination — in a warm, unhurried environment that invites curiosity, reflection, and flow.

Girls Only Space

Dragonfly Studios programs are intentionally designed for girls ages 7–10.
Research consistently shows that girls benefit from creative, all-girl environments during the formative elementary and pre-teen years — a stage when confidence, collaboration, and self-expression are rapidly developing.

In these spaces, girls are more likely to take creative risks, express bold ideas, and support one another without comparison or self-consciousness.
Our girls-only setting fosters belonging, voice, and mutual encouragement, allowing each participant to lead, explore, and express freely.

We understand that this focus can feel disappointing for families with boys who would also enjoy art experiences, and we deeply appreciate your interest.
Throughout the year, we occasionally offer mixed-gender community workshops where everyone is welcome to join.

Accessibility & Inclusion

We value inclusion and believe every child deserves a space to express themselves creatively.
Our studio is intentionally small and calm, offering a nurturing setting with individualized attention. Because we’re a one-teacher studio (sometimes supported by a young assistant), our ability to accommodate every need is limited — but our openness to communication and creative problem-solving is limitless.

If your child has unique needs or sensitivities, please reach out before registering so we can discuss whether the environment and projects can be adapted.

In general, participants should be able to:

  • Follow age-appropriate instructions

  • Stay safely engaged during class

  • Ask for help or express needs

  • Work respectfully alongside others

  • Participate in group cleanup at the end of class

Our goal is to create a community space where each child can create, connect, and thrive — in their own way, at their own pace.

Age & Readiness

We’ve thoughtfully determined the age ranges for each program based on developmental readiness, emotional maturity, and fine-motor skill level, so that every child can thrive and enjoy the experience.

We also recognize that readiness exists on a continuum — every child grows, learns, and self-regulates at their own pace. Our classes are designed to meet children where they are while gently stretching them toward new levels of confidence and patience.

Throughout the creative process, we lovingly challenge our artists to:

  • wait their turn for assistance,

  • practice flexibility when a supply or material isn’t exactly what they envisioned, and

  • reframe moments of frustration when a project isn’t going as expected.

These experiences are part of the deeper learning that happens through art — building frustration tolerance, resilience, and pride in one’s effort.

Our goal isn’t perfection, but progress, presence, and self-trust.
If you’re unsure whether a class is the right fit for your child, please reach out — we’re happy to discuss together what might best support their growth and joy in creating.

Please note the listed age guidelines when registering — they help us create group dynamics where each child feels confident, capable, and included.
If you’re unsure whether a class is the right fit for your child, we’re happy to talk through it with you.
